Jean Séguin and Judith Andrews
Owners
Jean Seguin and Judith Andrews purchased Kitsilano’s renowned The Smoking Dog Bistro in early 2005. Since then, the pair has made some exciting, progressive changes––transforming the traditional, more formal French Bistro into what is today a neighbourhood French bistro. Their enthusiastic approach to the venture is reflected in the friendly, relaxed atmosphere––balanced with the impeccable service, fantastic cuisine and extensive wine list that the Smoking Dog’s reputation has always been known for.
Jean, an entrepreneur and investment dealer, sees his revamping of The Smoking Dog as a personal challenge and a means of establishing himself in a new industry. On the other hand, Judith, or Jude as she prefers to be known, is a professional nutritionist who culled her passion for Bistro cuisine from a year spent in France’s southern region. To her, acquiring The Smoking Dog is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream to own a restaurant. Together, they envision the lively bistro as a gathering place that reflects the brasseries of Europe, complete with outdoor heated courtyard, lively music, and a certain bonhomie. The focal point is the lighter, more accessible French fare that is presented in a first-class manner, yet with more moderate pricing typical of a neighbourhood restaurant/bar.
